A BLAST FROM THE PAST:

The argument that suffragists can be good mothers reminds me of the later lamentations that working women could be good mothers, as well as career women. Edna Kearns kept the news holes of many Long Island newspapers filled with her campaigning and Votes for Women arguments. Not all of her neighbors in Rockville Centre, NY agreed with her. Edna Kearns insisted that voting rights be a goal of ALL women, and that this should be on the agenda of all activists in the New York City area.

THE GOOD NEWS:

The New York State Museum in Albany, NY has plans underway to place the “Spirit of 1776” suffrage wagon used by Edna Kearns on permanent exhibition. We’ll keep you posted.

A year ago, the city of Long Beach, New York erected a marker on its boardwalk commemorating the campaigning of women’s suffrage activists in that seaside community.

We’re alive and well at Suffrage Wagon News Channel.
