Our continued posting about grassroots activism to win women’s right to vote in the US is an example of how we’ve kept our awareness of the suffrage campaign wagon used by Edna Buckman Kearns fresh. During the decade leading up to the national 2020 celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, many volunteers were busy.

Just because the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment in 2020 has come and gone, this doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be aware of what happened and honor those who have come before us. Many events and special celebrations were cancelled during 2020 due to the viral emergency.
That’s why we’re continuing the awareness of the 100 years that US women have been voting. Women comprise more than 50% of the nation’s registered voters.
Bravo to New York State that noted the 100th anniversary of women voting nationwide after the 1917 state referendum in NYS that tipped the balance. The 2017 special referendum led to the national passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1920.
Even up to the last minute in 1920, citizens around the nation held their collective breaths. Would the ratification process in Nashville, Tennessee go as expected? Or would last-minute opposition set back the momentum?
