The year 2013 was the 100th anniversary of the first journey of the “Spirit of 1776” suffrage campaign wagon used by Edna Kearns and others in 1913. Today her two granddaughters and her great granddaughter are discussing the passing of the torch into the future. Who will volunteer? Edna’s granddaughter, Marguerite Kearns, has been blogging and managing the wagon since 2009. She’s passing on the job to another person in the family. A great deal has happened since 1913. Check into this blog and find out. Hochul is the first woman elected as governor. Her portrait will hang on the second floor gallery along with other governors, all men, also hanging at the state capitol in Albany, NY.

The video below has some close-ups of the “Spirit of 1776” suffrage campaign wagon used by Edna Kearns and others on Long Island and New York City in 1913. New York State celebrated 100 years of NYS women voting in 2017. Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul is studying the wagon’s history in the image below. NYS women didn’t prevail in the 1915 special referendum held on voting for women. But it won in 1917.
