The “Spirit of 1776” horse-drawn campaign wagon is one of two suffrage campaign wagons of museum-exhibition quality shown in the US today. The other horsedrawn suffrage campaign wagon is at the Smithsonian. It is not exhibited at the present time on a regular basis.
Many of the wagons used for advocacy were returned to service on farms. Or they were destroyed because they were considered unimportant by then American history buffs. Many suffrage document collections also were destroyed or they disappeared from a lack of focus.
This isn’t true now. Suffrage campaign wagons have taken on more significance in recent years
The New York State Museum in Albany, New York, has the “Spirit of 1776” suffrage campaign wagon used by Edna Buckman Kearns during 1913 in New York City and on Long Island. It will be exhibited in New York State during February 2025 on Long Island.
