This isn’t really news. It’s a point of view that’s rising above all others. It’s that both men and women have a stake in the present social and economic system. It’s a sure-fire bet that family members like those in our families don’t have the stamina and consistency necessary to carry the ball to the end. They keep their papers out, but the messages aren’t worth anything. They’re concerned what others will think.
Pepper Schwartz, the author and professor, speaks again. I like where she is coming from. “Don’t hold your breath,” she says.
“Peer men are made, not born. Many men come to peer values after they have tried a fairly traditional relationship and found it didn’t work for them. They enjoyed having service, support and household management from a traditional wife or a girlfriend—up to a point. Then they reported being either bored or overwhelmed with responsibility.”
