“I wish I could say it has been a slam dunk process, but it hasn’t been,” says suffrage or “votes for women” advocate Marguerite Kearns. “When we started this project, voting was on the decline. Many people were burnt out, but we’ve witnessed a complete turnaround since then.”

The goal of fair, reasonable, and easy outcomes has not been achieved. No woman has ever filled the shoes formerly filled only by men in the United States. But we’re not pessimistic.

Kearns adds:  “We did the best we could, and look at the differences today. Our work isn’t finished so a different volunteer crew needs to emerge. Will this happen? We don’t know, but the process continues forward. We are entering the future, and it’s possible to say this now—we are pleased with what has happened, even though the work continues.

“Thank you, everyone, who has contributed so far. It’s 2024 and I’m cleaning up after what has happened. Because the struggle continues, we will never give up.”
