Every December we have a moment of silence for Edna Buckman Kearns and her granddaughter Marguerite who has been working to bring the story of Edna and her allies Wilmer and Serena out of the shadows and into the hearts and minds of US residents, female, male and others, young and old.

EVERY DECEMBER HAS A NEW ACCOLADE FOR EDNA

Edna Buckman was born in on December 25 in 1882. Granddaughter Marguerite has been working on the ongoing blog, Suffrage Wagon News Channel, since December 2009. Now she is carrying the project even further by adding to the Edna Kearns collection at a major US women’s history archive.

During December we tip our hats to Edna, Wilmer, and Serena when they turned their intimate relationships into support and participation in the suffrage or “votes for women” movement. Marguerite has spent more than 40 years working on bringing this story to increased public awareness. The New York State Museum has also been an important part of this outreach process, as have numerous individuals and organizations who have also contributed in numerous ways. These include Tara Bloyd and Winnie Culp who as family members contributed to the Acknowledgement pages of the book Marguerite wrote—An Unfinished Revolution: Edna Buckman Kearns and the Struggle for Women’s Rights.

Suffrage Wagon News Channel has been publishing since 2009.

WE LOVE SUFFRAGE WAGON NEWS CHANNEL, publishing since 2009. We love this information directly related to the suffrage campaign horse drawn wagon used by Edna Buckman Kearns in 1913, 1915, and more. The New York State Museum plans to include the “Spirit of 1776” in the ongoing efforts to create a permanent exhibition at the state museum.
